IDG 9481^® Secure Remote Data Storage^tm

The Remote Storage Module is primarily responsible for collecting tape images from the IDG 9480^® Tape Emulation Module. The Remote Storage Module requests tape-movement criteria from the IDG 9485^® Library Control Module, prioritizing "recall" requests for tapes to be recovered from the Remote Storage Module to the Tape Emulation Module.

Like each emulated tape drive and each tape, the Remote Storage Module may be assigned to one or more security groups controlling which tapes it is able to transfer from the Tape Emulation Module. If a candidate tape doesn't have a matching security group, then it is not considered for transfer.

After the tape has been copied or moved, the Library Control Module is updated to reflect the tape's location and the time it was copied. Additionally, if the operation was not a recall and was a move rather than a copy, the virtual tape is then deleted from the Tape Emulation Module.
